My name is Patricia A’Bell, I am a Registered Nurse / Credentialed Diabetes Educator. I commenced my private practice Diabetes Education Outreach Service in June 2010.
AS a registered nurse/credentialed diabetes educator (RNCDE) educating people on diabetes is something that I am passionate about. I began my Nursing career in 1993 after graduating from Charles Stuart University in New South Wales; I started my diabetes career at Bundaberg Base Hospital in 1996. I have been working in diabetes education now for 21 years. In July 2000 I relocated from Bundaberg to Tasmania where I began working full-time in diabetes education and gained my initial credentialing in 2003, working in various settings including hospitals, community and rural areas of North East Tasmania.
Since re-locating back to Bundaberg in 2008 I have been working in the Wide Bay and North Burnett Region of Queensland and have had the pleasure of working with a variety of cultures and age groups, from children to the elderly, which has involved the education of clients, family, significant others and staff. I offer a professional and personalised diabetes education service to people living with diabetes, their carers, families and other associated health professionals in the Bundaberg, North Burnett and Wide Bay Region.
I am Accredited with the Mater Hospital Bundaberg; Friendlies Hospital Bundaberg, and have full scope of clinical practice to work within the Wide Bay Hospital and Health services at Eidsvold, Mundubbera, Biggenden, Childers, Gayndah, Monto, Mt Perry, and Gin Gin Hospitals. I am also a registered: – Medicare provider; Department of Veterans Affairs Provider & registered with Private Health Insurers
People can be referred to the service by contacting their GP, or patients can self-refer by phoning the Diabetes Education Outreach Service office on 07 / 4153 1536. I can see clients in my office located at Unit 12, Bundaberg Business Enterprise Centre, Cnr of Quay and Tantitha Streets Bundaberg Central.
I also see clients on a regular basis in local GP’s surgeries; at Aberdovy Clinic, Branyan GP Super Clinic, Grace Family Practice Bargara, Blue Care Respite Biggenden, Gayndah Medical Practice, Mundubbera Medical Centre and Eidsvold Health Service and Frances Family Doctors in Maryborough.
I deliver Diabetes Self-Management Education; Individual consultation; Education for Health Professionals; Group consultation; Nursing-home visits and Home visits.
My service includes education for:
- Newly Diagnosed and currently diagnosed – Type 1 Diabetes; Type 2 Diabetes;
- Gestational Diabetes;
- Insulin initiation;
- Insulin Pump Therapy – Pat is a Certified Insulin pump Trainer with; Medtronic, Animas and Roche as well as Dexcom and iPro Continuous Glucose monitoring systems.
- I am also registered with: – Novo Nordisk – helping hands program, Lilly patient education program & Sanofi co-stars program.
