Branyan Clinic offers a full range of General Practice services including acute walk in presentations and booked appointments, with an increasing emphasis on chronic disease management and preventative health care.
Branyan Clinic officially opened in 2011, and offers a full range of General Practice services, with an emphasis on chronic disease management and preventative health care. Branyan Clinic has been granted full accreditation from General Practice Accreditation (GPA). Teaching and Education has been a strong focus for our clinic with the inclusion of Medical Students from the University of Qld, John Flynn Placement Program and James Cook University. Nursing students attend placements from Central Queensland University and Wide Bay Tafe.
Branyan Clinic operates as a multidisciplinary centre providing professional services in areas of General Practice, Practice Nursing, Psychology, Diabetes Education, Physiotherapy, Exercise Physiology, Dietetics, OAPL Orthotics and Prosthetics (Orthopaedics Appliances Pty Ltd), and Audiology. Pathology services are available in the clinic by S&N Pathology Monday – Friday 9:00am – 12:00pm.

Dr. Richard Bensa
Dr Richard Bensa has been a GP for 18 years working in Cornwall and also worked as a palliative care facilitator for Macmillan Cancer Relief.
Richard trained in Scotland and Cornwall in the UK with a specialized rotation in General Medicine with jobs in Acute Medicine, Gastroenterology and Rheumatology and Care of elderly becoming Member of Royal College of Physicians.
Having also spent 2 years as an Anaesthetist and worked in Intensive care for 6 months before training in General Practice again in Cornwall.
Richard emigrated with his family to Bundaberg in August 2018.
Richard’s main interests are in general medicine chronic pain but really all aspects of general practice.

Dr Huddy Fuller
A native Queenslander, Dr Huddy Fuller graduated from the University of Tasmania in 2012, and spent his hospital years in Launceston then Hervey Bay. He then went on to complete GP Fellowship in NSW, believing that General Practice is the most important medical specialty for the betterment of people’s lives.
Huddy has a background as an exercise physiologist and enjoys bringing this knowledge to General Practice. He is experienced in skin cancer screening and management, musculoskeletal medicine, and chronic disease management especially type 2 diabetes.

Dr Els Joossens
Dr. Els Joossens has been a GP for 20 years.
Els studied Medicine in Belgium and graduated as MD at the University of Antwerp in 1996.
She did part of her internship in Australia, at Saint Vincent Hospital in Sydney under Prof Mundy and ….
Els did further training in acute medicine and surgical assist for one year and then spent a year in research and vaccine study at the department of epidemiology at the University of Antwerp.
In 1998 Els decided to go into GP training, which she finished 2 years later. She also obtained the Special Certificate in Acute Medicine.
Next to being a GP, Els remained working part-time in hospital as well, first as Emergency Physician, later as Hospital Doctor for a main Antwerp Orthopaedic Centre.
Since her internship in Australia, Els had a desire to come back to this beautiful country and by coincidence, or is it faith, the opportunity arose.
After a few campervan travels through Australia the family agreed and they emigrated in 2014.
Els started to work in a Boyne Island medical practice and became a Fellow of the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners in ….
She joined Branyan Clinic in May 2020.
Next to General Medicine Els’ special interests are Skin Cancer Care, Orthopaedic Medicine, Paediatric Medicine, Women’s Health, Obesity treatment and Vaccination and Travel Medicine.
She is licensed to do skin cancer screening and performs all skin cancer and minor surgery.

Gaye commenced working with Branyan Clinic in February 2012 as Practice Manager.
She has over 14 years’ experience in Medical Administration with most of this time in management.
Gaye has a Diploma in Practice Management and was a finalist in the AAPM Practice Manager of the Year for 2017.

Morgan Engstrom
Morgan is employed as a Senior Receptionist at the Branyan Clinic. Morgan holds the leadership role on our reception team. She commenced work at the Clinic in late 2015. Previously, Morgan worked in the Mining Industry as a Maintenance Receptionist. Morgan works in all areas of admin within the clinic. These multi-discipline admin areas include Lungsmart Pulmonary Rehabilitation, Heartstart Cardiac Rehabilitation, General Practice, Branyan Physiotherapy, Psychology, Diabetes Education and Exercise Physiology. Morgan is studying her Certificate IV in Medical Assisting.

Hi my name is Julie Pearson and I am a registered nurse at Branyan Clinic. I have been fortunate enough to become a team member of Branyan Clinic just over 12 months ago after completing my degree in Bachelor of Nursing.
I have an interest in chronic disease management, preventative health measures and wound management. It gives me great satisfaction being able to make a difference in our patient’s lives through regularly monitoring them and offering assistance wherever necessary. My interests out of work are water-skiing, golf and spending time with my family.

Julia joined our Branyan Clinic nursing and Heartstart team as a Heart Failure Patient Coordinator in July 2018. Your medical record is a confidential document. It is the policy of this practice to maintain security of personal health information at all times and to ensure that this information is only available to authorised members of the staff.
Reminders system
Our practice is committed to preventative care. Your doctor may seek your permission to be included on our reminder system and National Registers i.e. pap smear, and we may then issue you with a notice from time to time offering preventative health services appropriate to your care. If you wish to opt out of this service, please notify our reception.
Home Visits
Are available for regular patients who maybe too sick to attend the clinic at the discretion of the doctor. Routine home visits may be possible with prior arrangement.
Results
Please discuss with your Doctor when to expect the results of any tests and procedures and how you can get these results. Please contact us to book an appointment to obtain your results as we may not always be able to reach you, especially if you have moved and your contact information has not been updated. Our staff are happy to discuss any concerns or questions you have regarding our recall and reminder system.

Non English Speaking patients
Patients who do not speak or read English or who are more proficient in another language, or who have special communication needs, are offered the choice of using the assistance of a language service to communicate with the Doctor or clinical team members.
The National Relay Service (NRS) for patients that are deaf or the translation and Interpreter service (TIS) Doctors Priority Line (1300 131 450) for patients from a not English speaking background.
Urgent Medical Care
Should your needs be urgent our staff are trained to triage patients request either over the phone or in person and will assist with appointments and assessment by the nurse or Doctor as deemed necessary. If your need is an emergency you may be asked to phone an ambulance or have someone take you to the hospital emergency department for care.
Telephoning your Doctor
Doctors at Branyan Clinic may be contacted (if available) by phone during normal surgery hours. However, when the Doctor is with a patient, a message will be taken and your call will be returned as soon as possible. If your call is considered urgent, it will be treated as such and will be put straight through to the doctor.

The clinic operates as a multidisciplinary centre providing professional services in areas of Psychology, Diabetes Education, Physiotherapy, Audiology, OAPL Orthotics and Prosthetics (Orthopaedics Appliances Pty Ltd) HeartStart Cardiac and Pulmonary Rehabilitation Program.
Pathology services are provided in the clinic by S&N Pathology Monday – Friday 9:00am – 12:00pm.
In January 2013 a survey team from the Australian General Practice Accreditation Limited (AGPAL) acknowledged the significant investment our clinic staff has made, in providing quality care on a day-to-day basis. Reaccreditation was performed by General Practice Accreditation (GPA) in 2016 who have endorsed our clinic, granting full accreditation until the March 2019.
Tenancy of the upstairs area was secured by the Wide Bay Health Unit in September 2012. Their involvement by supporting the integration of teaching and research within our education and health facility has been demonstrated by their willingness to participate in interdisciplinary training and education programs and presentation days run and held within the Branyan Clinic’s modern and stylish facilities.
Teaching and Education has been a strong focus for our clinic with the inclusion of Medical Students from the University of Qld, John Flynn Placement Program and James Cook University. Nursing students have come from Central Queensland University and Wide Bay Tafe.
Utilisation of our Telehealth Videoconferencing consulting room has assisted patients and doctors by lowering the need for patients to travel to Brisbane to attend some specialist appointments.
