LungSmart Pulmonary Rehabilitation

About LungSmart Pulmonary Rehabilitation

LungSmart Pulmonary Rehabilitation is a structured program incorporating evidence-based exercise, education and support that can benefit people with chronic lung conditions. Pulmonary rehabilitation can be effective at various stages in patient’s lung health journey, from when they are first diagnosed, to after a hospitalisation for a lung illness, and as part of an ongoing management plan to optimise function.

Program Information

LungSmart Pulmonary Rehabilitation is group-based and provides supervised exercise treatment tailored for people with chronic respiratory disease. Pulmonary Rehabilitation provided to individuals with chronic respiratory disease (including COPD, interstitial lung disease, bronchiectasis, and lung cancer) has demonstrated improvements in symptoms, exercise tolerance, and quality of life. Standard rehabilitation includes supervised group exercise training twice weekly for eight weeks, supervised by our physiotherapists.

Mr Simon Halloran is the Program Director. Simon has a Bachelor’s Degree in Physiotherapy graduating in 1997 from The University of Queensland. He has been responsible for the clinical operation of pulmonary rehabilitation programs and chronic respiratory disease physiotherapy clinics in Bundaberg since 2006. He is a member of the Australian Physiotherapy Association, and of the Lung Foundation Australia Pulmonary Rehabilitation Network. He is a contributing author to the TSANZ Australian and New Zealand Pulmonary Rehabilitation Guidelines.  He was a contributing author for the ‘Better Living with Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease: A Patient Guide’, now published in its Third Edition by Lung Foundation Australia. He is a certified Level 2 Kinetic Link Training Coach.

LungSmart Physiotherapy is also offered at Branyan Clinic, and offers  individual physiotherapy consultation with adult cardio-respiratory physiotherapy expertise, including thorough patient assessment and standardised outcome measure assessment, followed by evidence-based therapies tailored to the individual. This service supports patients and their doctor/s to develop and regularly review a suitable management plan for controlling their symptoms of lung disease.
